What the Atlas is
Unquiet Atlas is a free editorial field guide to dark, strange, and historically significant places across the United States. It is not a paranormal-investigation company, a ghost-hunting service, a trespassing guide, an abandoned-building locator, a user-generated sighting platform, a travel agency, a booking platform, a historical institution, a museum operator, or a government source.
No guarantee of conditions
The Atlas does not guarantee that any location is currently open, safe, accessible, or unchanged. Practical details carry the date they were last checked against the linked source. Hours, prices, reservations, closures, seasons, roads, trails, ferries, rules, and hazards change. Check the primary source before leaving home, and follow the rules of the site operator and the land manager on the day.
No authorization to enter anywhere
Nothing on the Atlas authorizes entry to any property. Where a file says closed, restricted, private, guided only, or view only, that is the rule. You are responsible for your own conduct, safety, permits, tickets, and compliance with the law. See the rules of the road.
Folklore
Creature files and files marked History + folklore document legends and reported experiences as cultural history. They do not establish any creature, haunting, or supernatural explanation as fact, and they do not point to claimed encounter locations.
Sources, map data, and imagery
Linked sources belong to their publishers and are summarized in the Atlas's own words. Map tiles and data are from OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License. State and national outlines are derived from public-domain U.S. Census Bureau boundary files. Brand imagery is commissioned, non-specific, and depicts no real place; it is not evidence of anything. Text and design of the Atlas are the work of its publisher; quote briefly with attribution, do not republish files wholesale.
Partner links
Some links may be compensated. They are labeled at the point of use and governed by the partner disclosure. Purchases made through a partner are contracts between you and that partner.
Your road file
The road file is stored in your browser and is your responsibility to export and keep. The Atlas cannot recover it.
Corrections and removal
Owners, operators, descendants, communities, and rights holders can ask for a correction, a change in presentation, or removal of an image or a file through the corrections desk. Requests are reviewed by a person.
Provided as is
The Atlas is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. Use it as a starting point for lawful, careful travel, not as the last word on any place.
